WAHA International - Women And Health Alliance

We are very pleased with the support provided by Fistula Foundation over the past years and the resulting work that we have accomplished in Zimbabwe!WAHA International - Women And Health Alliance is one of Fistula Foundation’s longest-standing partners. Since 2009, we have worked together on projects in 18 countries.

In 2013, WAHA approached us with a bold plan: they wanted to start Zimbabwe’s first fistula treatment program. Given our strong partnership with WAHA, we were eager to support their efforts. The country faced a dire maternal health situation, and WAHA was among the best positioned in the world to take action. Their staff was, and remains, highly experienced in treating obstetric fistula and setting up training programs in complex settings.

In many ways, WAHA’s work in Zimbabwe has been trailblazing. They were forced to start from scratch, establishing their own referral network with community-based organizations and forging agreements with local hospitals.

Today, WAHA remains the only fistula treatment provider in Zimbabwe. They have expanded to provide care in three hospitals, and their hard work to establish an outreach and referral network has paid off exponentially. In 2018, they plan to provide 200 fistula patients with comprehensive care. We are proud to support their vital work.
