WAHA International to start fistula care programme in Guinea

Dr. Fatouma Mabeye, WAHA’s medical coordinator is currently in Guinea to see how WAHA can support with the treatment of obstetric fistula.

Several hospital services already receive support from a variety of international organisations. WAHA’s objective would be to help hospitals scale up their fistula care activities, including by integrating training on fistula repair for medical students from the university.

Guinea has an estimated maternal death rate of 680 deaths for every 100 000 live births, with 1 in 26 women having a lifetime risk of maternal death according to the latest data from the United Nations. This high maternal mortality is indicative that there are many women suffering from post partum injuries, including obstetric fistula.
