First days of vaginal surgery of Conakry at the urogynecological WAHA center Ignace Deen

In collaboration with Ignace Deen Hospital from Conakry and in partnership with University Gamal Abdel Nasser from Conakry, WAHA International organized a training session dedicated to vaginal surgery from the 13th to the 16th of June 2016.

In the context of inter-university diploma training, the experts ensured preparatory postgraduate teaching to current medical students. Five universities from West Africa have joined CHU in Conakry for practical training during the 1st year of university studies focused on medical care for women’s childbirth complications and female genital mutilation. The training covers complex vaginal prolapse surgery, as well as the techniques to repair urinary incontinence and obstetric fistulas. The training sessions will rotate between the university of Conakry and its partner institutions in Niamey, Ouagadougou, Cotonou, Dakar and Bamako. In Conakry, WAHA International already hosts specialized urogynecological consultations within Ignace Deen Hospital which receives patients suffering from organ prolapse. In this program, WAHA International sent a urogynecological surgeon from Lyon for a period of 6 months who is dedicated to training that is focused on sharing knowledge and expertise between the North and South, within a university context. Along with its involvement in the fight against obstetric fistulas, WAHA International is a pioneer in the surgical treatment of serious disorders of the pelvic floor that share the same origin as fistulas: difficult childbirth. In so doing, WAHA confirms its commitment to the women’s health worldwide.
