A lot of attention was given to obstetric fistula at the World Congress of Urology held in Morocco last week.
WAHA International organised its first vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) camp in Eritrea in June 2010. The intervention was implemented by WAHA International in co-operation with the Ministry of Health of Eritrea. The team was composed of Dr. Khaddaj, Prof. Gueye and Dr. El Sayed.
Until recently no up-to-date training manual for fistula surgeons existed. Over the past three years fistula specialists have been meeting to produce a competency based training manual for fistula surgery. The latest meeting has just ended in Morocco where the manual has been finalised.
Under the motto "Using mobile technology to reduce maternal death." WAHA International has applied for the FACT (The French American Charitable Trust) Challenge 2010.
The International Urological Society (SIU - Société Internationale d'Urologie) annual congress is being held in Morocco from the 13th to the 16th of October.

Twelve women with obstetric fistula have been operated on these past few days in Maroua. Meanwhile a public outreach campaign is informing the population that women suffering from fistula can come to Maroua for treatment.
